How to Use Google Search Console

Find introductory information on what Google Search Console (GSC) is for & how you can leverage the data found within it to improve your Search visibility and increase your organic search traffic acquisition.

What is Google Search Console?

Think of GSC as feedback or a form of communication on what Google thinks about your website. How it is being indexed, which pages have visibility, and what that visibility entails.

Please note, once you set it up, it may take some time (a few days) to start populating the data.

Insights From Search Console

Performance Report

Once you’re logged in, the Overview > Performance report is the most important for you as it provides 16 months of data of how your website has been performing with the following metrics:

  • Impressions
  • Clicks
  • Click Through Rate (CTR)
  • Average Position

Coverage Report

This section within Search Console tells you the technical status of the website. It will list URLs without issues, errors, redirects, pages not indexed, and a not-so-great reason why there are errors on certain URLs.
